I feel that the future of intellectual property is heading into a complicated direction. I think that in a few years everything is going to have copyright and it is going to be difficult to use any of it. Sooner or late people are going to get tired of finding things that don't have copyright. If that happens then they will try to find a loop hole or just use the things with copyright no matter the consequences. Copyright is going to become a norm.
Copyright is something that is good, but bad at the same time especially when it comes to the classroom. The classroom will be impacted in diverse ways. Yes, you can teach children about copyright which is great, however there is a downfall. It is impossible to show disney movies or certain clips because of the copyright it has. For example, my aunt who is a elementary school teacher knows a teacher who showed a disney movie in her class. The father of one of the students was a lawyer for disney and sued the school for showing the video in front of 34 children. Years from now I feel that it is going to be even difficult to show or do anything with copyright. However, with creative commons it makes things easier for educators to continue using clips in the classroom if needed or use anything.
Social networking and collaborative tools have an impact on intellectual property and copyright. I feel the impact it has is both negative and positive. It great because people are getting credit for what they have done whether it is writing a book, research, ect. This gives them the ability to protect their work and themselves. People won't be able to steal work that other's have done. However, its also negative because it is difficult to use a clip or picture without copyright. If you do use a picture with copyright you have to ask the author for permission.
Overall, copyright has its positive and negative effects. No matter where copyright brings us we will be able to get through it. Networks such a creative commons will rise and be able to provide everyone with pieces or art clips or shows that can be shared freely. Even though, there is conditions in some of the creative commons pieces they're not as difficult as tracking down the artist and asking them to give you a release form.
